Back during my University days, I used to organise trips for my fellow peers to visit and explore lesser known places in Singapore as part of a bonding session. I enjoy planning these trips and loved the surprise exhibited by my friends when they go "I didnt know this place existed in Singapore" or something similar along this line.

Fast forward to today and occasionally, I have friends / acquaintances from other parts of the world who would often reach out to me when they intend to visit Singapore, asking for suggestions on the itinerary and places to visit. Hence, the idea for this blog came about. I intend to turn this blog into a useful resource about Singapore's lesser known places and attractions.

Hopefully, this blog would inspire everyone living in Singapore to explore and visit these off-the-track places. And to our beloved tourists visiting this little merlion city, I encourage you to take some time to veer off the tourist track and discover some of these amazing places.

Fountain of Wealth : Largest fountain in the world

Singapore may be a small country but it has a fountain which is the largest in the world - the Fountain of Wealth. It may not match the magical prowess of the Fountain of Youth in the movie " Pirates of the Carribbean" but it does hold its own in terms of design. History The fountain of wealth was built in 1995, together with Suntec City which is one of the largest shopping mall in Singapore. It is made of silicon bronze and was designed and manufactured in Australia by DCG Design and Meridian Projects before being installed at its current location. The fountain structure consists of a large 66 metre circular ring supported by four diagonal pillars. The fountain of wealth has a height of 13.8m and spans 1683 square metres, allowing it to be recognised in 1998 by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest fountain in the world! Gillman Barracks : Military Barracks turned Contemporary Arts Paradise

Gillman Barracks   History Gillman Barracks was constructed in 1936 and its location was chosen due to its proximity to the sea. Gillman Barracks was named after the late General Sir Webb Gillman, who was a highly respected officer of the British army and who came to Singapore for 3 months in 1927 to assess the defence capability of the British Naval Base. The 1st Battalion, Middlesex Regiment and the 2nd Battalion, Loyal Regiment of the British army were based in Gillman Barracks as part of a plan to facilitate the expansion of the British army in Singapore. Structures at Gillman include officers' married quarters, sports facilities, officers' messes, barrack buildings and regimental institutes. During the Second World War, the British regiments fought the Japanese for three days prior to the fall of Singapore in February 1942.
